Feels Solid and well worth the price October 8, 2008 Jonathan (Harlem, GA United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought this to be placed inside my gun safe to give my paper products extra fire resistance. It feels solid and easily accommodates full size documents and cash. For the money it seems like a great deal especially with free shipping considering it weighs close to 20 lbs. Granted it's not my gun safe but didn't cost thousands either. I can't comment on the locks as that is a non issue for me as I only wanted more security in case of a fire. If you want security you are going to have to pay to play as the saying goes. How hard would it be to break in with a crowbar or pry it off the floor and carry it out the door. If you want security you have to go big. IF you want some good fire protection put it in your freezer and it should make it through a fire.
Looks and feels solid, haven't tested it in a fire. August 24, 2008 Ryan Williams (PA, United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Looks and feels very heavy/sturdy. Haven't tested it in a fire (hope I don't have to, obviously). Room to fit 8.5 x 11" documents without folding, which is very nice. Must be stored horizontally to be effective (according to the instructions). Comes with two keys. Probably wouldn't be great strictly for privacy applications since you could most likely break the handle and/or lock fairly easily if you really wanted to, but that's okay because it's just supposed to provide protection from fire and water. I don't know if it's ultimately a five-star product or not (that would depend on how it performs in a fire), but I have no complaints thus far and I'm going with the "innocent until proven guilty" style of rating. Would buy again.
---Update--- After a few months of storing documents inside this thing, I have encountered a common problem among users: paper becomes damp and moldy. My documents were not ruined, but they felt slightly damp whenever I opened the safe, and some cash I put in there was starting to grow brown mold. I'm not sure why this is (lack of air circulation, maybe?), but the company is aware of the problem and will give you free desiccants (silica gel packets) to soak up the moisture. All you have to do is call them and ask. I got my free silica gel packets in the mail a few weeks ago (they sent several big ones), and threw them in the safe. Now my documents feel nice and dry, and I'm no longer worried that they're going to get ruined by moisture/mold. A smart response by the company to an otherwise annoying problem!

Good value February 1, 2009 Richard Bagge (Detroit) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Product description meets reality.
The latches work. The hinges work.
The lock is fine -- it probably could be broken fairly easily, but since someone could carry the box away, it really does not have to be that sturdy.
I hope never to know if the contents survive a fire.
Purchased to force myself to keep all the critical paper in one place.
OUTSTANDING PRODUCT January 8, 2009 J. Molinari (Staten Island, NY) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I BOUGHT THIS TO REPLACE AN OLD SENTRY PRODUCT THAT WASN'T WATERPROOF, AND IT WAS A GREAT DECISION. THE HONEYWELL IS LARGER AND THE SEAL CLOSES WITHOUT STRUGGLING. I MENTION THAT BECAUSE I WENT INTO STAPLES TO VIEW THE SIMILIAR SENTRY FIREPROOF/WATERPROOF SAFE, AND IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO CLOSE AND THERE WAS NO HANDLE, WHICH IS REALLY STUPID. THE HONEYWELL OUTSHINES THE SENTRY PRODUCT BY LEAPS AND BOUNDS, AND 8 1/2 X 11 DOCUMENTS FIT PERFECTLY. YOU WON'T BE SORRY. I LIVE IN NYC AND IT WAS DELIVERED 2 DAYS AFTER THE PURCHASE. $34.99 AND FREE SHIPPING IS LIKE STEALING SOMETHING FROM AMAZON.COM.
