5 out of 5 stars Small, Loud, & Reliable. A real quality product. Highly recommended.   July 31, 2008

I've had it a few months now. Only 2.5"Wide, almost 4" tall, 1.25" Deep. Very small but very loud, I can hear it across the house when volume is switched to low. It plays a cute little tune when the mailbox is opened. Flashing light will tell you mailbox door was opened, flashes until reset, will not re-sound-off if door is opened again while not reset. Reset by pushing button on top. According to directions, pauses in light flashes will tell you when TX or RX (Transmitter or Receiver, respectively,) batteries are low but that has not happened yet. TX uses a 12 volt battery about half the length of a AA batt. RX uses 2 AA batt.

I've had two previous mail alert alarms, one worked fairly well for 3 years (I don't think it is still made), then bought a different mail alert (I still see it here being sold on Amazon) that was erratic at best. Although I have only had the MailMinder about 3 weeks, so far it has proven to be easily the best of the three. One thing I noticed is with my two previous mail alert systems is that with them the mail box had to be opened nearly all the way to set off the alarm, resulting in inconsistency since your mail carrier does not always open the mailbox door all the way down. With the MailMinder, the mail box only needs to be opened about 5 inches before it sets it off, a main reason this mail alert has been much more reliable. I will note my mailbox is only about 50 feet from the receiver, with no obstructions, so the range of mail alert is not tested as much as it soul would be if my mailbox was at a greater distance, athough the unit says it is accurate up to 200 feet.

Another reason I like this alert is my other two mail alarms just sound a loud beep, this one plays Beethoven's "Fur Elise" (for a few seconds). You can even adjust the song to high or low volume. Even if you happen to miss the hearing the song (it only plays once), a red light will flash and keep flashing alerting you the mail has arrived. The MailMinder receiver is also battery powered, meaning better flexibility where you can place it, and it comes with screws so you can easily attach it to a wall.

Durability is the big question with small electronic items, especially if kept permanently outside. Even though your mail box does shield it, extreme temperature variations can often send items like this to an early graveyard. In a few months, if I remember, I will update this review.

Tip-Although a sticky tape is provided to attach the transmitter to your mailbox, use Velcro or better industrial strength Velcro. In the summer, especially if your mailbox is bombarded by the sun all day, the heat inside your mailbox can turn the sticky tape gummy, making the transmitter prone to falling off. This happened with my two previous alarms, until I switched to Velcro which never failed. The unit will also be far easier to take off your mailbox, important since the transmitter needs to have the battery periodically replaced.

5 out of 5 stars If you have a rural-type mailbox, you need this   December 5, 2008

Where I happen to live, the mail can arrive anywhere from 11AM to 6PM. This little gizmo has been a godsend. With the MailMinder, I know exactly when the mail arrives. The original tape didn't hold up, but I replaced it with some Loc-Tite double-sided tape, and it's fine now.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect little product   March 1, 2009

This seems to be a good example of a product that is simple, well designed, and just works. For the size, it's quite loud (has two volume levels). It has a button on the top that you press to "reset" it after it has been activated when the mail comes. The sensor is small and unobtrusive. It just works.

The MailMinder works just as it's supposed to on my metal mailbox. I don't have any problems with interference or it not chiming anytime. I did however have to super glue a piece of velcro to my mailbox and then super glue the other part of the velcro to the back of the transmitter, so that the device can just attach to the velcro inside the mailbox, because the sticky back tape did not stick whatsoever on the metal. But this worked well and I love my MailMinder!
