I miss my night light - LOL March 20, 2010 Gregory P. Alford (Chicago Suburbs) This replaced a Coleman that I had for years, but I could not find replacement batteries for. This works well, but the Coleman had a charge indicator that doubled as a night light. I recharged it in the hallway to the bedrooms and the night light was very useful. This flashlight also has a blinking option that I think is just a waste.
Badly flawed, possibly dangerous July 18, 2010 Catguy 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought my Dorcy rechargeable flashlight from Orchard Supply. The "manual" that comes with it does not give a model number but molded into the side of the flashlight is MODEL FD-8388E120VAC. No trace of that model on the web, but it is identical (and has the identical manual) as 41-1045. I followed the charging instructions exactly, charging it overnight before use. The next night I used it and it was very impressive, particularly since it seemed to weigh next to nothing. Not wanting to age it by continuously charging it, I waited several days to recharge it; it still worked fine. But after the second recharge, the light seemed weak and - I still have no explanation for this - it was bright when pointed downward, but if I tilted it up, the light would become unsteady and go out by the time it was horizontal. Rotating the flashlight along the long axis had no effect. It was useless in this condition, so I tried to remove the battery to check it, by opening the little door covering the battery (as per instructions). But the battery was wedged in so tightly I couldn't get it out. So I went the extra mile, unscrewed the 4 screws holding the flashlight together, and opened it up; then I could extract the battery. The voltage was about 1.2 volts, indicating that one of the 2 cells was fine and the other shorted out. Small wonder the light was weak. I decided to try to recharge it again, replaced the battery (careful to get it in the right direction). Before trying to recharge it, I tried turning it on with the flashlight open and guts visible in case I could see anything weird. BUT the battery exploded - sudden loud BANG and the parts flew out of the flashlight. Probably a spark set off some hydrogen. I felt fortunate that I was not blinded.
At first I wanted nothing to do with this Model, but after talking to the Orchard Supply person, I was convinced that this was a freak accident due to a faulty battery. So I simply exchanged it for a new Darcy flashlight, Which I charged as per instructions, used for 4 days, then recharged. Lo and behold, the light was weak and again would not shine at level or higher. Am I going to disassemble it again? No way, it's going back to OSH for a refund this time.
vendor antonline is awful February 1, 2010 New Jersey (New Jersey) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
The vendor antonline has very poor customer service. They sent me the incorrect product. They gave me a hard time about sending a return label. I asked when they would send the correct item and they said they needed to receive the return first. I pointed out that it was their mistake and that they should rectify the problem at once, but they insisted that they must receive the return first. A few days later I received the return label. I never received the correct item. I contacted them multiple times to inquire when I would receive the correct item. I finally received an e-mail stating that they had issued a refund and if I would like the correct item I would need to start over. I would NEVER order from them again!
Arrived with damaged batery April 1, 2010 R. ASTRID and the seller would not even consider taking it back as I had already open and throw away the box.
I charged the flashlight as stipulated on the manual, it worked one day then I put it to charge for a few hour more and the light was terribly weak, when I opened the batery compartment I saw that the batery was like it had been melted !
Dorcy - Worlds' Worst Flashlights July 16, 2010 dubya8ch This is the second Dorcy flashlight that I ordered that "failed" to work. The first one (Dorcy 41-1044 Two Hour Failsafe Rechargeable Flashlight) lasted about 4 months and then would not recharge. Dorcy told me I could not get free replacement but could order and pay for a new one. Should have learned a lesson but I ordered a different Dorcy flashlight (Dorcy 41-1045 5MM)and it would not charge at all. Left in charger full 36 hours per Dorcy instructions. Immediately sent back to Amazon for full refund. Dorcy products are a total waste of your time and money!!!!!
